What you learn
The PADI Rescue Diver is a challenging and rewarding course. This course expands on what you already know about how to prevent problems, and how to manage them if they occur. The Rescue Diver course is a crucial step in expanding knowledge and experience beyond a purely recreational level and will introduce you to the following:
- Self-rescue
- Recognizing and managing stress in other divers
- Emergency management and equipment
- Rescuing panicked divers
The PADI Rescue Diver rating is a prerequisite for Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Open Water Instructors.
The Scuba Gear You Use
You use all the basic scuba gear (BCD, regulator, mask, snorkel, fins, scuba cylinder, and exposure protection) including your underwater compass. You will also use reels, floats, buoys, pocket masks, and other rescue equipment such as a first aid kit and oxygen unit.
Learning Materials
You will read the PADI's Rescue Diver book and complete the five knowledge reviews and discuss these with your instructor. You will prepare an emergency assistance plan for the dive site and spend two days of open water diving demonstrating various self-rescue skills, ten rescue exercises, and participate in two rescue scenarios.
Continuing Education
Apply your knowledge as a Rescue diver and make the leap to a Master Scuba Diver or become a professional and join others in the rank as a professional PADI Divemaster!
